Monteriggioni di torri si corona 2019 is one of the main summer events in the province of Siena and will take place during two weekends: from 5 to 7 and from 12 to 14 July. Every year, this evocative medieval festival set up in the unique village of Monteriggioni attracts thousands of visitors. The program of the event proposes several initiatives such as thematic shows, historical re-enactments, performances by street artists, music, dances and medieval cuisine. The celebrations of Monteriggioni di torri si corona 2019 will officially begin on the evening of Thursday July 4, at 8:00 pm approximately, with the traditional medieval banquet in the castle. In this first event of the festival, the typical flavors of the gastronomy of the Middle Ages mix with moments of entertainment.
From the evening of Friday 5 July the event will therefore go live with the participation of 3 important music groups making music in theme with the event. In detail, the bands that will play live in this year’s edition are Folkstone, Errabundi Musici and I Sonagli di Tagatam.
The program of the 29th edition of Monteriggioni di torri si corona features the preparation of historical re-enactments in each of the six days of the event, the staging of a wedding at the time of Dante and the presence of numerous historical groups from the nearby towns.
Of course there will be the very interesting medieval market, performances by street artists, dancers, and the presence of people in historic costumes.
Monteriggioni, one of the most fascinating villages of Tuscany
The name of this event does not have an abstract and imaginative origin, but derives from a precise verse of the XXXI Canto dell’Inferno of the Divine Comedy.
The verse in question reads: “As with circling round of turrets, Monteriggioni crowns his walls; And thus the shore, encompassing the abyss, was turreted with giants, half their length, uprearing, horrible, whom Jove from heaven yet threatens, when his muttering thunder rolls.”.
In particular, the text refers to the unique aspect of Monteriggioni, a characteristic town in the province of Siena characterized by a boundary wall that completely surrounds the town and in which the towers stand out in a way that seem to form a crown.
For historical and architectural reasons, this picturesque town near Siena is considered one of the most fascinating villages in all of Tuscany, together with the nearby San Gimignano.
