In the early sixties, the far-sighted Umberto Stasi opened one of the first hotels in Siena: the Hotel Italia. The Hotel Garden, Villa Agostoli and Relais degli Angeli were then further added over time. Nowadays, the four hotels make up the Siena Inns group: a leader in hospitality in Siena. The “bottini” of Siena are an ancient network of underground aqueducts that still supply the city’s fountains. Constructed in medieval times to meet the town’s water needs, they have since become the stuff of myths and legends. Some sections of the “bottini” at Fonte Nuova and Fonte Gaia can be visited in small groups together with a guide.
